If you suffer from varicose veins, spider veins and related conditions, you are not alone.  Part of everyday life for many, it is estimated that more than 80 million Americans suffer from some form of venous disorder. Vein problems worsen over time and can affect your health and well-being. If you suffer from venous disease, now is the time to take action and find relief.

Veins

Arteries carry blood away from the heart while veins channel blood back. Leg veins have one-way valves which maintain unidirectional blood flow toward the heart. If these valves malfunction blood gravitates down the leg when in the sitting or standing position. This reversal of blood flow, or "reflux", causes the signs and symptoms of venous disease.

Vein Diseases

Varicose veins cause symptoms of pain, cramping, heaviness, fatigue, itching and burning. In severe cases, varicose veins may cause swelling, ankle discoloration and ulcerations.

Spider veins are smaller veins, close to the skin surface, which are usually red, purple or blue. Though considered a cosmetic condition they may cause symptoms of itching and burning.

Venous ulcers are typically shallow ulcers most commonly seen in the medial ankle area resulting from venous reflux.

Hand veins can, as we age, become varicose and quite unsightly.  In fact it may be the appearance of your hands that 'tell your age'.

Facial veins vary from small spider veins on the cheek and nose to dilated veins elsewhere on the face.

Who should seek Treatment?

All patients with symptomatic and or cosmetic veins are candidates for evaluation and treatment.  Many patients have suffered for years being told there was no hope for their venous disease.  Others are concerned that available vein treatments are painful, disfiguring and costly.

Advances in the treatment of venous disease have put both of these assumptions to rest.  The good news is that most patients with vein disorders can be treated in an office setting with excellent clinical and cosmetic outcomes with little to no down time.  Though the treatment of spider viens is considered cosmetic most other vein evaluations and treatments are covered by your health insurance plan.
