Perhaps your treatment has had little success, or your wound healed only to come back. If so, you are not alone. Millions of people like you have experienced this too. The good news is that there is hope that things can be better.
The Comprehensive Wound Care Team at VSS is knowledgeable and promises to treat you with compassion and respect. We are equipped to evaluate non-healing leg wounds, identify the source of your problem, and get you the help you need.
Our goals for you are measured by your wound healing and decreasing the risk of ulcer recurrence. This is accomplished through identifying and treating underlying health risks that need to be addressed. That’s why our team’s holistic approach to wound care makes a big difference.
So don’t keep doing what you’ve been doing. It’s time to get the help you need to heal so that you can get your life back!
Chronic Vein Disease: The most common cause of Chronic Leg Ulcers is untreated vein disease. Another leading cause is a history of blood clots (DVT).
Arterial Disease: High blood pressure, and smoking are risk factors for arterial disease and ulcers of the toe, foot and ankle area.
Diabetes: Up to 5% of diabetics will develop foot ulcers – caused by a combination of narrowed blood vessels and neuropathy.
We take a whole-person approach to wound treatment, acknowledging that each patient is unique and requires an individualized plan. Our team collaborates to create a comprehensive care strategy designed specifically for you. From helping you establish nutritional guidelines that promote healing to applying the most advanced wound treatment techniques, our goal is to make sure that you get the care that is right for you.
What kind of care will you receive at Vein Specialists of the South? Our collaborative approach involves working closely with you to create a plan of care that accommodates your unique needs. The healing time for your wound depends on factors such as size, severity, and underlying medical conditions. Some wounds can be healed within weeks, while others may require months of weekly care. Treatments may include:
Wound Washing:
We prioritize a thorough but gentle cleaning process for your wounds, to make sure you get the best results from the rest of your treatment.
Gentle Debridement Techniques:
When removing unhealthy tissue is necessary for the healing process, we use careful debridement techniques paired with numbing, nitrous oxide, and topical pain ointments for your comfort.
Advanced Treatments:
Utilizing advanced biological dressings enhances wound closure and promotes optimal healing. Using the best products for your care means faster healing and reduced chances that your wound will come back.
Nutritional Assessment:
We assess nutritional status and provide guidance on supplements when needed, recognizing that having enough vitamins and minerals will help you get the best healing results.
Negative Wound Pressure Therapy:
For cases requiring additional intervention, we offer negative wound pressure therapy to reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process.
Lymphedema Therapy:
Many patients with leg wounds or ulcers also suffer from leg swelling. At VSS we have a member of our Lymphedema Care at VSS team actively involved in our wound care program. Controlling the swelling with manual lymphatic drainage, compression wraps and intermittent compression devices for home use are key components in promoting healthy skin and wound healing.
VSS Comprehensive Vein Care:
It may surprise you that up to 90% of chronic leg ulcers can be traced back to underlying vein disease. With our 30+ years of experience treating vein disease in patients, we are not surprised. That’s why we created the Comprehensive Wound Care Team at VSS. At VSS, all chronic leg ulcers patients are evaluated and treated for chronic venous insufficiency where needed. Addressing the root cause promotes wound healing and is crucial in reducing your risk of recurrence leg wounds or ulcers.
