Prominent facial veins are something none of us want, so when they pop up, they can make us insecure about our appearance. But you don’t have to cover up these veins with makeup any longer.
Most facial veins respond well to minimally invasive, office-based treatments. Vein Specialists of the South partners with Spa Medical, as your premier centers for treating facial veins. With the help of our team, you can say goodbye to embarrassing facial veins, and put your best face forward!
Facial veins are common around your nose, mouth, chin or eyes. They typically present as spider veins, with small red, blue or purple clusters of veins often because of a dilated blood vessel too close to the skin’s surface. However, the veins at the corner of your eye, and down around and under your eyes, can be larger blue/green veins.
There are many common causes, including:
Larger varicose veins on the face and neck can be an inherited venous malformation. These malformations are typically present at birth or appear in early childhood. Additionally, small veins that appear on the upper and lower eyelid are not correctable with laser therapy or ambulatory phlebectomy. Both conditions require a more thorough evaluation, specialized equipment, and complex treatment plan.
Laser therapy is the number one treatment choice for most facial spider veins.
At Vein Specialists of the South, we work in conjunction with Spa Medical to treat facial veins. This partnership gives you access to a variety of treatment options based on your individual condition and patient needs. These treatments include topical medications, dietary changes to avoid triggers, laser therapy, good skincare and more. Sometimes, combination treatments are the most effective way to reduce your face veins.
The gold standard treatment for facial veins is laser therapy. The excel® V+Laser system is specifically designed to address these types of veins. Its dual wavelengths (532nm and 1064 nm) can handle just about any vascular condition, including facial veins. Pulses of light energy target the affected veins to coagulate the blood within, damaging the vessel and leading to eventual vascular death. The body reabsorbs the vein and redirects your blood supply deeper below the skin’s surface, where it belongs.
If you have large blue-green veins near your eyes, the treatment options depend on the size and location of the veins. Your VSS provider may recommend ambulatory phlebectomy, a minimally invasive outpatient method. Ambulatory phlebectomy is done with a gentle local anesthetic, and micro-incision (2mm) for removal of the problem veins, with minimal to no scarring.
Depending on the treatment chosen for your facial spider veins the timing of the results may vary. Topical skincare and dietary changes may take time to control your facial veins.
If laser therapy is recommended, several sessions may be needed for good long-term maintenance. Visible reduction of face veins is often seen after the 2nd treatment and will continue through the course of your regimen.
The redness of rosacea can be treated with topical skincare and dietary changes. Laser therapy is effective in reducing the response to stimulus which causes flares.
For patients who have ambulatory phlebectomy at VSS for facial veins under the eyes, the recovery is a few days. There may be some minor bruising, but the visible vein is immediately eliminated.
It’s just 3 easy steps…
Micro-phlebectomy is a minimally invasive method to remove varicose veins of the face. It is a simple Walk in. Walk out.® outpatient office treatment. Done under a gentle local anesthesia, there is minimal to no downtime, though some bruising around the eye is possible.
With laser therapy treatments, you may experience tenderness of the treatment area, and some redness that feels like a mild sunburn. You may also experience swelling. These effects resolve within a few hours or days.
Topical treatments for rosacea have no downtime. But with any topical treatment, some irritation of the skin can be possible.
