Varicose veins form when the great and/or small saphenous vein valves malfunction, allowing blood flow to reverse or reflux and pool. This causes the veins to bulge, leading to unsightly varicose veins. Vein Specialists of the South is pleased to have been the first to offer FDA approved VenaSeal™ to varicose vein patients in Middle Georgia.
VenaSeal™ is an adhesive specifically designed to close refluxing saphenous veins without tumescent anesthesia or oral sedatives. VenaSeal™ is minimally invasive; a small catheter is inserted into the unhealthy veins and the adhesive is applied. The adhesive reacts with the vein wall to create a polymer that effectively seals the vein closed. The entire length of the refluxing vein is treated. With no blood to reflux and pool, the bulging veins will diminish over time.
If you have varicose veins and experience the uncomfortable symptoms they cause, such as heaviness, itching, burning, throbbing, aching, swelling, or skin changes like ulcers, you may be a good candidate for VenaSeal™ treatments.
A comprehensive consultation is the best way to determine if VenaSeal™ is the right treatment for you.
Once your consultation determines VenaSeal™ is the best option to treat your varicose veins, you’re scheduled for your Walk in. Walk out.® procedure. Since VenaSeal™ is a non-thermal treatment, local anesthesia is limited to the IV insertion site. Under ultrasound guidance, a tiny catheter is inserted into the refluxing saphenous vein. The VenaSeal™ is injected into the vein and compression is applied to the vein. The ultrasound ensures the vein is sealed. Blood then reroutes to healthy veins improving the circulation.
It’s just 3 easy steps…
In clinical studies, patient results had a 97% success rate with VenaSeal™ treatments. We recommend combining VenaSeal™ and microphlebectomy for saphenous reflux and large symptomatic varicose veins.
Smaller bulging varicose veins may diminish in size with VenaSeal™ alone. Any veins that don’t wholly resolve can be removed with a minor procedure called microphlebectomy.
VenaSeal™ is unique in that it does not require the use of compression hose. Depending on your individual health, you may need some rest after having VenaSeal™, but many patients return to their normal activities after treatment.
